Raise Awareness During Universal Human Rights Month

Learn about human rights during Universal Human Rights Month.

Living in a democracy, we may often take our rights for granted. When the United States was formed, every American was granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. While human rights have been a pillar of contemporary American society, much of the world lacks basic human rights. This month is Universal Human Rights Month. Check out what you need to know about fostering human rights for all across the globe.

Human Rights & the United Nations.

The call for universal human rights came shortly after the establishment of the United Nations. After the organization’s development in 1948, the General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These rights range from legal rights to protect people from cruel or unusual punishment to the right to enjoy the arts and other cultural aspects offered by the community.

Participating in Universal Human Rights Month.

It’s often hard to stand up for others. However, it’s important to stand up for universal rights. Get involved by educating yourself about human rights and sharing what you learn with your friends and family to speaking out when you see injustices happening before you. Big or small, there’s always a way for you to make a difference.
