Celebrate National Philanthropy Day on November 15th!

Tomorrow, November 15th is National Philanthropy Day.  Philanthropy is “the love of humankind,” which means there is no better day than National Philanthropy Day to recognize all the achievements of those who volunteer, donate and share to make our world a better place.  One of my favorite personal adages is, “to whom much is given, much is expected.”  That’s the essence of philanthropy.  Or as fellow Rotarians are fond of repeating, “Service Above Self.”

On this day, it is encouraged that we give in some way. Community engagement on a charitable level is imperative so that we can practice the “love of humankind.” In doing so, it’s important to turn to what inspires our goals and dreams, and work off the inspirations of others in our local community as well. There are a variety of ways we can celebrate, including:

  • Volunteering at a local animal shelter to spread human compassion.
  • The Adopt a Highway program allows us to beautify a local highway and collect litter.
  • Either hosting or giving to a local clothing drive to give back to those who are in need.
  • Take a day to volunteer at the local food bank and perhaps to feed the homeless.
