Let’s Share Our Bounties; It’s National Food Bank Day

The first Friday in September is National Food Bank Day; join us as we learn more about this important event in our country.

Today is National Food Bank Day, a day dedicated to making sure that no one in America goes hungry. Every year, food banks across the country assist 42 million men, women, and children who do to get enough to eat. This day reminds us that we too can make a difference in the life of someone who is struggling to put food on the table.

On this day, we can have an impact on the lives of others by making food or monetary donations to our local food banks. It’s important to remember that food banks do not just need donations of non-perishable food items, they also require fresh items as well. Visit your local food bank’s website to see which items they are most in need of.

Additionally, we can encourage our friends and family to join us as we volunteer at a food bank or soup kitchen. By doing so, we can make personal connections and perhaps feel like we are making a more direct difference in someone’s life. Volunteering allows us to see the reality of food scarcity and helps us eliminate any unconscious stigmas that we or our loved ones may harbor. Not only is volunteering at a local food bank a great way to give back, but it is also a wonderful educational opportunity for adults and children alike.

Why not extend this day to other days in our lives? Perhaps volunteering or donating quarterly or even monthly, let alone weekly, would be a wonderful opportunity to help make this day have more of an impact throughout the year.

We at The Maria Sanchez Show hope you will join us as we give back to our local communities this National Food Bank Day.  Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown.  Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PDT/7:00 p.m. EDT.
