Here are some of the upgrades that we can make in our homes to help the planet.

With Earth Day approaching, many of us are thinking of ways that we can make our homes more environmentally friendly.  Fortunately, there are many simple upgrades that we can make around our home to conserve water and energy and produce less waste.  Here are some of the things that we suggest to make our homes more green.

  • Switch to LED Lightbulbs

Upgrading to LED lightbulbs has several environmental benefits.  First, LED lightbulbs are more energy efficient than standard bulbs, which reduces the amount of energy that we need to illuminate our homes.  Additionally, LED bulbs last far longer than standard bulbs.  This means that we contribute less lightbulb waste to landfills.

  • Replace Windows

Over time, our windows can develop cracks around them that allow cool or warm air to escape our homes.  When this occurs, we end up expending more energy keeping our homes at a comfortable temperature.  Additionally, homes with single pane windows do not have enough insulation to keep their interior temperatures stable.  Replacing thin windows with a double-paned option will ensure we are not wasting energy when we cool or heat our homes.

  • Low-Flow Plumbing Fixtures

Finally, installing low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets are a great way to conserve more water.  In fact, simply switching over to a low-flow toilet can help our households conserve 3,000 gallons of water per toilet every year.  Making this simple upgrade to our homes ensures that we are not wasting this precious resource.
