Celebrating the life and legacy of Apple founder, Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs (1955 – 2011) is best known as the Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder of Apple, Inc.  Credited with the development of many of Apple’s most iconic products, Jobs is often referred to as the father of modern technology.  While Jobs is most connected to Apple, he also created Pixar Animation Studios — home of many famous animated films including “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” and “The Incredibles.”

In honor of his prolific life and continuing the legacy of Steve Jobs, here are some interesting facts.

  • Jobs dropped out of college after just 18 months at Liberal arts College, Reed in Portland, Oregon. However, Jobs continued his education by auditing classes.  His favorite course was calligraphy, which famously went onto influence the typography and font featured on all Apple products.
  • In his younger days, Jobs experimented with marijuana and LSD. Jobs claimed that the hallucinogenic offered him a “profound experience” and was “one of the most important things” in his life.  He claimed that taking the drug helped him think differently.
  • Jobs also spent some time as a fruitarian, a subset of veganism that means eating only fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and grains — absolutely no animal products. Basically, the reproductive parts of plants that can be consumed without doing any harm to the plant itself.
  • While we know Job’s company as Apple, Inc., the company was called Apple Computer, Inc. for its first 30 years in business. On January 9, 2007, the company dropped “Computer” from its name to represent its expanding electronic market.
  • In 2010 Apple surpassed Microsoft as the most valuable technology company in the world. The following year, it surpassed Exxon as the most valuable company in the world.
  • Apple sold 1.3 billion devices in 2018.
  • Apple’s revenue jumped from $8 billion in 2014 to $265 billion in 2018
