Why Do We Celebrate Columbus Day?

While it is a day off work for many, Columbus Day has a rich, cultural meaning for many. One of the biggest events on this big day is the Columbus Day parade in New York. This event attracts thousands of participants and spectators from around the world. Before you tune in to this big event, find out the answer to the question “Why do we celebrate Columbus Day?”

Columbus Day is celebrated in remembrance of the day Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. There is a lot of debate whether this is something worthy of celebration–as Columbus was not the first to discover the country and there were a lot of issues involved with this event. However, many choose to think of it as one of the important days that lead to the establishment of the United States. As such, the big parade is a BIG event and one enjoyed by many.
