Wedding Season Spotlight: Longest Married Couple

Wedding Season: Longest Married Couple

Longest Married Couple Encourages Us During Wedding Season

In our modern age, a lot of people may be cynical about marriage.  In Western cultures, more than 90 percent of people marry by the age of 50. Healthy marriages are good for couples’ mental and physical health.

They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational and social problems. Unfortunately, about 40 to 50% of married couples in the United States divorce. The divorce rate for subsequent marriages is even higher.

This can be a problem during wedding season, since we might find ourselves needing to attend a lot of ceremonies and celebrations. Fortunately, there is one couple that might give us a little more faith in the institution of marriage.

Dale and Alice Rockey got married on December 29th, 1933. Their marriage license cost $2. They are still celebrating their love today, and have been recognized by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter as the longest married couple. They are currently in their 81st year of marriage!

Their union has spanned multiple wars and 13 presidents. They have raised five sons together. They have been retired together for over thirty years and are still enjoying one another’s company. Deeply in love eight decades later, they get breakfast together every day, then settle in to pass the day with each other.

We hope you enjoy this wedding season, heartened by the Rockey’s inspiring story! The Maria Sanchez Show will be right there celebrating with you.
