You might assume that Turkey Lovers Month would fall in November since most American families serve turkey as the centerpiece for their Thanksgiving meals. In fact, though, Turkey Lovers Month is in June!

While turkey gets the spotlight on Thanksgiving, this lean meat is great year round. It is not just delicious, either. Turkey has a multitude of health benefits. It is very high in protein (one 3-ounce serving contains 26 grams!), which helps our bodies feel energized and build lean muscle. It is also low in fat, as that same 3-ounce serving contains just one gram of fat and no saturated fat.

To add this healthy meat to your summer meals, why not grill up some turkey burgers at the next barbecue? An equally delicious and much healthier alternative to red meat, turkey burgers are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, nearly half of consumers say they want to have turkey burgers on the menu when dining out. Why not give them this tasty option at your next event?

Personally, I love to prepare meals with ground turkey.  I use it to make meatballs for my spaghetti sauce.  Ground turkey, ground pork and extra lean ground beef are combined with seasonings to make delicious and lean meatballs.

I also use turkey sausages instead of pork sausages.  They too are also much lower in calories and fat than the usual pork sausages.

Finally, turkey breakfast products are abundantly available and again give you the flavor but not nearly the fat of their pork counterparts.
