Today Marks the Day Mother Teresa was Baptized

Mother Teresa Baptized

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” – MT

The day of her baptism was actually more important to Mother Teresa than her birthday. Although she may not have celebrated her 100th birthday herself, August 26 was marked by her order in Rome, and many other places, “to give honor and glory to God.”

Mother Teresa (baptized in Skopje, Macedonia) taught in India for 17 years before she experienced her 1946 “call within a call” to devote herself to caring for the sick and poor. Her order established a hospice; centers for the blind, aged, and disabled, as well as a leper colony. She was summoned to Rome in 1968, and in 1979 received the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work.

Mother Teresa’s birthday is always filled with special celebrations taking place in Calcutta, India, her birthplace of Skopje, Macedonia and dozens of other cities worldwide.
