Tips to Increase Our Water Consumption

Here are a few suggestions on how to drink more water every day.

Staying properly hydrated is an important component of a healthy lifestyle, however many of us tend to overlook this as we struggle to manage our hectic lives.  Luckily, there are steps that we can take to make it easier for us to meet our daily hydration goals.  Here are some of the tips that we’d like to suggest.

Carry a Water Bottle

One way to help us stay hydrated is by carrying around a water bottle everywhere we go.  Having this easy access to water will ensure that we can take a sip anytime we are feeling a little bit thirsty.  As thirst is the first indication of dehydration, having water on hand will ensure that we do not progress to the further stages of dehydration.

I always leave my home with a water bottle full of the filtered water that I have at my kitchen sink.  It’s amazing how much water you can consume when you’re in the car, or at your desk, or in meetings.  The challenge is usually finding suitable water to refill the container, but that means that we’re drinking more than we ordinarily would!

Make Flavored Water

Sometimes, drinking plain water day after day gets boring.  This, in turn, can make it difficult for us to motivate ourselves to reach our hydration goals.  To ensure that we are keeping things interesting, we can try adding different combinations of fruits, vegetables, and herbs to our water to flavor it.  Not only will this make it easier to keep drinking, but it will also infuse our water with a delicious burst of vitamins and other nutrients.

Something else that I do to change up how I consume liquids is by brewing a couple of cups of herbal tea and then putting ice cubes into my container and the tea over the cubes.  Herbal teas can be great for us, and this is another way to make the water taste different, if not better.

Set Smaller Goals

The average adult should drink between 8-10 glasses of water a day.  However, this amount of water seems daunting.  To make it more manageable, we should break this into smaller goals.  For instance, we can try challenging ourselves to drink one glass of water every hour.  This would mean that we would reach our daily hydration goal in the span of a normal workday.  Everything that we drink after that would simply be extra credit!
