New Tips for a Healthy Flu Season

New Tips for a Healthy Flu Season

Here are some unexpected suggestions for a healthier flu season.

Unfortunately, February means that it’s still flu season.  Hopefully most of us have already gotten our flu shots and are careful about washing and sanitizing our hands and sneezing into our inner elbow dubbed the ‘Dracula’ position, there are other steps that we can take to reduce our chances of contracting the flu.  Here are some new, and perhaps unusual health tips that we might try out this flu season.

  • Hand Washing

A thorough hand washing consists of using soap and warm running water while singing the “happy birthday” song – which is usually much longer than we ordinarily would wash.  Try it out sometime and see how much we may have been short-changing our hand washing routine!

  • Do Laundry at High-Heat

While many of us don’t think about it, our clothing and bedding may trap the flu virus.  Rather than cuddling up to potentially-illness inducing pillows and blankets, it’s important that we stay healthy by regularly disinfecting our clothing and bedding.  We can accomplish this by doing our laundry, particularly our bedding, with hot water.

  • Switch Out Our Toothbrushes

Most of us brush our teeth twice a day.  While this is generally a great health practice, this isn’t the case if you are still using the toothbrush that you used when you were sick.  Because toothbrush bristles can collect and trap germs and disease-causing viruses, it’s important to switch out our toothbrushes as soon as we recover from the cold or flu.

  • Replace Beauty Products

We should also replace our beauty cosmetics after we have suffered a serious illness or infection.  This is because beauty products may become contaminated with the same germs that caused our illness in the first place.  While we probably don’t have to throw away products such as face and eye makeup, we might seriously consider replacing any of the lip products that we used while we were under the weather.

We at The Maria Sanchez Show hope you will try out these suggestions to stay healthy this flu season. Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown. Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. EST.
