This Memorial Day is Different

Memorial Day got a little bit away from us for a few years. It became a holiday for an extended week of travel, a BBQ, a day off from the grind.

Then, with all the recent conflicts our country has been in within the last decade, its primary purpose has been realized again. Most people now know a family affected by the loss of conflict at a personal level. As a result, the simple lesson we teach our children today on how to fold an American flag and related flag etiquette now means so much more than it did a few years ago.

Maria Sanchez is proud to show her support for the brave men and women making great sacrifices to serve this country and defend our freedom.  Having a Korean War veteran for a father, a brother who was a Captain in the Marines, Maria is constantly filled with gratitude for those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our own.

Sometimes it takes reality to remind us what is really important; each generation renews the collective memory with a clean slate and needs an experience to ground it.

On the Maria Sanchez show we talk about issues that affect everyday life in Ventura County and elsewhere, and this Memorial Day the date is more than just a holiday on talk radio or at work or at school. To us now it is a day of remembrance for all our family members who have fought and lost and for those who have paid the ultimate price for our country.
