Supreme Court Dismisses Prop 8

As Gay Rights Correspondent Fred Balch recently reported on The Maria Sanchez Show, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down DOMA this week. That and the fact that we saw Prop 8 dismissed had gay marriage opponents worried about the impact on so-called traditional marriage.

Well, it has been a few days, and so far all my married, heterosexual friends seem to be in good health, their marital contracts legally intact.

What this signifies to me is that anyone striving to promote marriage equality in this nation should continue to do so. This means that it is possible to marry someone of the same gender, and life will go on.

After hearing about the SCOTUS ruling, California Gov. Jerry Brown directed the California Department of Public Health to advise counties in the state to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples just as soon as the Ninth Circuit had the stay lifted.
