Stay Calm; It’s National Stress Awareness Month

Let’s manage our stress this month.

April is National Stress Awareness Month, a month-long campaign that asks us to recognize the damaging effects of stress on our mental, emotional, and physical health.  In honor of this National Stress Awareness Month, we should all make an effort to keep our stress under control.  Here are some tips that we can try to better manage our stress.

Talk Through Our Stress

Bottling up our feelings is not an effective way of dealing with them, and this is especially true for stress.  When we try to ignore our stress, it tends to build up and become increasingly debilitating.  A better way of dealing with our stress is talking about the things that are stressing us out.  Not only will talking about our stress make us feel relieved, but it can also help us put our problems into perspective and make them seem easier to deal with.

Make Time to De-Stress

Everyone has something that helps them relax.  Whether it’s exercising, watching tv, reading, cooking, or so on, we should always set aside time to pursue relaxing activities.  When we make time to de-stress, we give ourselves time to relax and replenish ourselves.  This in turn will allow us to handle the next stressful situation with more ease.

Respect Our Limits

Oftentimes, we are responsible for creating our own stress by accepting responsibilities that stretch us too thin.  While there’s nothing wrong with pushing ourselves, there’s a difference between pushing our limits and ignoring them.  If we want to reduce our stress, then we need to learn to say no to the extra responsibilities that push us too far.  By respecting our limits, we can cut a lot of unnecessary stress out of our lives.
