St Patrick’s Day in the LA Area

On the Maria Sanchez Show we love to talk about topics that are of interest to our audience whether you live right here in the Los Angeles area or wherever you may call home.  We are always looking to bring new and relevant information about relationships, current events, lifestyles, health and wellness and .people in the news.

March is a time for merry-making as spring arrives and we all get to recognize the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.  St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17.  What you may not know is the who, what and why behind the celebration.

St. Patrick’s Day became an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century.  It was traditionally celebrated by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, Lutherans and the Eastern Orthodox Church.  This is the day these groups commemorate St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.  As a matter of fact, Ireland enjoys thousands of visitors every year during this festival as people from all over the world come to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the land of its beginnings.

This is also a day to celebrate the culture and heritage of the Irish.  On this public holiday there’ll be parades, parties and festivals.  Here in Southern California, the Elks Lodge will put on their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  This is their 26th year and it will begin at 10 am on Saturday, March 15, 2014 on Main Street in downtown Ventura in front of the San Buenaventura Mission.  The Grand Marshall is Dr. Richard Rust, the Founding President of Cal State University, Channel Islands.

There is so much happening all the time and we’re sure to keep our fingers on the pulse of all the news you want to know around the world.  For all the latest check out my podcast on The Maria Sanchez Show.
