Spring Forward! Let’s Adjust Our Clocks for Daylight Savings Time

It’s time to move our clocks forward for Daylight Savings Time.

Daylight Savings Time (DST) refers to the practice of setting our clocks forward an hour during spring and back again during the fall. The phrase “spring forward, fall back” is a little saying that helps people remember which way to adjust our clocks. Today, it’s time to “spring forward” as we lose an hour and gain more daylight!

While Daylight Savings Time is a normal occurrence for us in the United States, less than 40% of the countries in the world use DST.  In fact, even the American states Hawaii and most of Arizona do not use daylight savings time.  However, adhering to DST does have some advantages.  For instance, studies have suggested that DST could lead to fewer traffic accidents by staying lighted longer.  Additionally, because there are more hours of natural daylight during DST, it can reduce the amount of energy needed for artificial lighting during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Surprisingly, DTS is a pretty controversial issue with many proponents and opponents alike.  Most recently, the state of Florida has made a push to permanently stay on DST in an effort to benefit their tourism industry.

Regardless of how you feel about DST, we at  The Maria Sanchez Show would like to remind you to set your clocks forward.  Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown.  Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. EST.
