Take Action Against Bullying on National Stop Bullying Day

Find out what we may need to know about bullying during National Stop Bullying Day.

Bullying has become an increasing problem over the years. It affects people of all ages, but it can be especially damaging to children. Join us in standing up to bullies, and participating in National Stop Bullying Day. On October 12, 2016, we’d like to illuminate ourselves and those we care about on the issues associated with bullying. Here’s our quick guide to help us better understand bullying and recommend methods that may help to stop it.

Warning Signs:

  • Signs of violence. Whether our children are being bullied or is the bully-er, it’s important to be vigilant. That can begin by looking or observing for any signs of violence like bruises or unexplained injuries.
  • Changes in behavior. If our children avoid social situations, have difficulty eating or sleeping, or have decreased self-esteem, it may be a sign that our children may be being bullied.

What to Do About Bullying:

  • Talk to our kids. We suggest that open communication is one of the best ways to interact with our families. It’s important that we know what’s going on in our kids’ lives and we can help to intervene when issues, like bullying, arise.
  • Teach our kids how to handle bullying. Explaining to our children that bullying is unacceptable is a great beginning. By helping them understand that bullying is not okay and providing them with some tools that may assist them in standing up for themselves.
