Love Is in the Air This Spring on National Proposal Day

Join us in observing National Proposal Day.

Valentine’s Day has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean that proposal season has ended. As we watch our friends and family get married this spring, know that there’s still hope for all the single people in our lives. March 20 is National Proposal Day! It’s an opportunity for all our loved ones to get engaged. For those of us unfamiliar with National Proposal Day, we would like to share some interesting facts about the holiday.

Love and the Equinox.

When it comes to celebrating National Proposal Day, we get two opportunities; once during the autumn equinox and once during the spring equinox. The coming of the new seasons is the perfect time to celebrate love for one another.  These two days are also chosen because our day and our night are equal lengths, not just in the United States, but also around the world.

Helping to Facilitate Conversation.

Communication is key in our relationships. National Proposal Day helps couples to communicate their plans for the future. It helps start the conversation about marriage so that couples can foster open and honest communication about the direction of the relationship.

What are the origins of this day?

John Michael O’Loughlin thought up the concept because he had a cousin who was dating a man for years, and her boyfriend never got around to proposing.

Why do men traditionally propose on bended knee?

In doing some research, it appears it isn’t really known why this tradition takes place.  There are some suggestions that Roman Catholics kneel as a sign of supplication and that knights knelt when they were being knighted.  The consensus seems to be that it is a respectful act, and suggests surrender.  Surrendering and leaving behind the single life.

We would like to invite you to join us at The Maria Sanchez Show in celebrating National Proposal Day. Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown. Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PDT/7:00 p.m. EDT.
