National Lasagna Day

Celebrate National Lasagna Day With This Recipe

Of all comfort food, lasagna just might stand out above the rest. It is warm, nourishing, cheesy, and flavorful. Those are just some of the reasons why today is National Lasagna Day! You might find yourself digging through a plethora of lasagna recipes to celebrate, so we wanted to cut your search short by offering one of our favorites. To make it, you will need:

  • 1 ½ pounds of ground beef
  • ½ pound of Italian sausage
  • 1 chopped large onion
  • 3 minced cloves of garlic
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon each of dried parsley, dried oregano, and dried basil
  • 2 14.5-ounce cans of chopped tomatoes
  • 2 6-ounce cans of tomato paste
  • 24 ounces of ricotta cheese
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ cup of grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound of mozzarella cheese
  • 15 lasagna noodles

Brown beef, sausage, onion, and garlic together. Add in the salt, pepper, dried parsley, oregano, basil, chopped tomatoes (with juice), and tomato paste. Stir together and simmer, covered, for one hour.

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions.

Spray a 13×9 inch baking pan with cooking spray. In a large bowl, stir together the ricotta cheese, eggs, fresh parsley, parmesan cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.

Layer noodles, meat sauce, and cheese mixture in the baking pan, beginning and ending with noodles. Top with the remaining mozzarella and bake at 375 F until cheese is melted (40-60 minutes). Enjoy!
