National Hispanic Heritage Month Begins Today

National Hispanic Heritage Month

The next 30 days are a celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Interestingly enough, nearly one in five people in America is of Hispanic heritage. This is an opportunity to celebrate this major part of our population – literally! Today marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th.

Every year, we designate this month to remember the histories of the Hispanic cultures that have brought so many great Americans to our shores. Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15th to commemorate the independence of El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua, who all gained freedom on this day in history.

This celebration began as a week in 1968, but President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a full 30 days in 1988. Whether you are of Hispanic descent and will spend the month celebrating your heritage or you aren’t and want to learn more about these cultures that have contributed so much to America, the coming month is important!
