October is National Dental Hygiene Month

Protect your dental health during National Dental Hygiene Month!

It’s National Dental Hygiene Month! With the holidays right around the corner, we know it may be difficult to resist all the Halloween candy and pumpkin pie. But, these sweet treats aren’t just bad for our weight, they’re also bad for our teeth. Participate in National Dental Hygiene Month, and check out what we may need to know about good dental hygiene.

Brush Often.

To keep our teeth healthy, it’s important to brush our teeth regularly. When we brush, we help to keep plaque in check and remove food particles, which can help to reduce our risk for tooth decay.

Don’t Forget to Floss.

Floss can help us to remove food particles that may have gotten stuck between our teeth.  By flossing often we may be able to reduce our risk for oral diseases like gingivitis.

Visit the Dentist.

It’s suggested that we visit the dentist at least once every six months. That way our teeth can get a good cleaning, and our dentists can catch any issues before they get out of hand.

A Periodontist May Be A Solution.

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists receive extensive training in these areas, including three additional years of education beyond dental school. They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, and are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.

Periodontists often treat more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. Periodontists offer a wide range of treatments, such as scaling and root planning (in which the infected surface of the root is cleaned) or root surface debridement (in which damaged tissue is removed). They can also treat patients with severe gum problems using a range of surgical procedures. In addition, periodontists are specially trained in the placement, maintenance, and repair of dental implants.
