It’s National Cholesterol Education Month!

Keeping our heart healthy is an imperative aspect of overall health. While exercise is a good way to keep our hearts pumping, it’s important to be mindful of our diets as well. Too much cholesterol can be detrimental to our circulatory system, leading to heart attack and stroke. This month is National Cholesterol Education Month. We believe that health is a vital ingredient to wellness. Make health and wellness a priority, and check out what we may need to know, or at least be reminded of regarding cholesterol.

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that our bodies need to help make hormones, vitamin D, and digest food. While our bodies need cholesterol, too much cholesterol is bad for our blood vessels. It may build up as plaque against our artery walls which may cause blockages that can lead to a blood clot.

How to prevent high cholesterol:

Get screened for high cholesterol. The more aware we are of our health, the more capable we are to fix any problems. Exercise regularly, and eat healthy foods low in fats and high in fiber so that we’re best able to manage our cholesterol.
