Let’s Eat Better This National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month

Let’s get healthy this June.

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, a month that encourages Americans to increase their intake of fresh fruits and veggies.  In honor of this month, let’s sample these suggestions to incorporate more fresh produce into our diets.

Introduce New Fruits and Vegetables Weekly

One way to increase our produce consumption is by choosing a new fruit and vegetable to highlight every week of June.  During this week, we should challenge ourselves to come up with new and delicious preparations of the chosen fruit and veggie.  Not only is this a great way to eat more fruits and veggies, but it will also encourage us to try out new things.

Healthy Family Favorites

Almost every family has a picky eater who refuses to eat their fruits and veggies.  To encourage all our loved ones to eat better, we can try incorporating more fruits and vegetables into family-approved recipes.  For instance, we can try incorporating fresh fruits into milkshakes, try hiding grated vegetables into pasta sauce, and try substituting unhealthy snacks for healthier alternatives (for instance, replacing French fries with baked sweet potato wedges).  Not only will this help ensure that our families are getting the important nutrients they need, but it will also inspire us to be a little more creative in the kitchen.
