Let’s Challenge Our Culinary Skills This New Year

Let’s Challenge Our Culinary Skills This New Year

We invite you to join us and set these cooking resolutions to get more creative in the kitchen this year.

While we often think about setting new years resolutions to improve our health, stay organized, and start new ways of living, we may forget that we can set resolutions to help us improve in other areas of our lives. For instance, we can set goals to improve our creativity and skills in the kitchen. Let’s challenge ourselves to accomplish cooking goals like these in 2019.

Educate Ourselves About Making Better Food Choices

Two of my personal favorites for educating myself are contained in “Eat Less Water” by Florencia Ramirez, and “Death By Supermarket” by Nancy Deville, published in 2007 and sometimes difficult to obtain but well worth the effort.

Go Meatless

One way to create some real change in ourselves in the kitchen is by serving up meat-free meals at least once a week. This resolution will push us to try out different meat alternatives and will encourage us to get more creative with our use of fruits, veggies, and other plant-based ingredients. As an added bonus, committing ourselves to going meatless may also benefit the environment. Because meat production places a significant strain on our natural resources and environment, going meatless can help reduce the overall demand for meat production and help to protect the planet.

Recreate Our Favorite Restaurant Dishes

This year, we could also have fun by attempting to recreate our favorite menu items at home. Not only is it a fun project to get the flavors and cooking techniques exactly right, but this resolution may also help us eat out less frequently. As homemade meals are generally healthier and cheaper, this is a great way to take care of our health and our budgets as well.

Challenge Ourselves to Try New Recipes

Finally, this year, we might challenge ourselves to try a completely new recipe every week. This is a great way to open ourselves up to new flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques. Additionally, with all the great recipes out there, taking on this challenge may ensure that we and our families do not fall into a boring food rut.
