Let’s remember this iconic literary figure and the author who brought him to life on National Tom Sawyer Days.

National Tom Sawyer Days in an annual event held in Hannibal, Missouri, the hometown of the famous American author, Mark Twain.  This event draws Twain fans from all over the world who wish to celebrate their favorite author and participate in fun events such as a parade, flea market, carnival, no-speed-limit car competition, and Mud Volleyball Tournament.

In addition to these events, many of the other competitions held during this occasion are inspired by Twain’s various novels.  A great example is the “Frog Long Jump” which is based on Twain’s first famous book, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. Tom Sawyer Days also features the iconic “Tom and Becky” or “Fence Painting Contest.” Inspired by The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, this contest is open to children aged 10-13.  During this event, the children will be evaluated on three main criteria: their Tom Sawyer costume, how quickly they can paint the fence, and the quality of the paint job.

While most of the Twain-inspired events take place on July 4th, Tom Sawyer Days span several days filled with fun activities and competitions that the whole family can enjoy.  For more information on this ecclectic event, please click HERE.
