Let’s Celebrate Black History Month

Let’s Celebrate Black History Month

Find out how we can all get involved this Black History Month.

February is Black History Month, a month dedicated to remembering and celebrating the contributions that African Americans have made throughout American history.  This February, let’s all make an effort to celebrate Black History Month by trying out these meaningful suggestions.

Read

One of the best ways we can celebrate Black History Month is by reading one of the many brilliant literary works written by African American authors.  For instance, we can enjoy some of the books written by Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, Frederick Douglass, Toni Morrison, and so on.  We can also enjoy the poetry written by Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Gwendolyn Brooks, and many others.

Listen

Another great way to celebrate Black History Month is by listening to music created by legendary black artists.  While there are plenty of contemporary African American artists to listen to, try going back and listening to the classics.  We might be surprised to find how much modern music is inspired by other legendary black musicians.

Learn

Perhaps one of the best ways to celebrate Black History Month is by learning about the significant black Americans throughout our history.  From Martin Luther King Jr., to Jackie Robinson, to Harriet Tubman, to Sojourner Truth; there are so many important black figures that we should recognize and celebrate.  It’s important that we make an effort to give these significant figures the attention they deserve.

We at  The Maria Sanchez Show hope you will join us as we celebrate Black History Month.  Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown. Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. EST.
