Let’s All Look on the Bright Side: It’s Positive Attitude Month

Let’s learn how we can make the most of Positive Attitude Month this October.

Unfortunately, with the crush of daily stress and worries, it’s sometimes difficult to stay positive.  However, Positive Attitude Month asks us to take a step back and look at the bright side of things.  Having a positive outlook on life can improve our mental health and can encourage us to keep trying even when things get difficult.  In honor of Positive Attitude Month, we invite you to join us as we try some of these tips for staying optimistic this month.

And who knows, we might actually create a habit of staying positive.  Research suggests that it takes approximately 21 days to create a new habit, the simpler the goal, the shorter the time.  However, if we practice this the entire month (which will need to roll over into November), we might be on to something.

1) Start every day with a positive affirmation.  Setting a positive tone for our day can make it a lot easier to handle the little setbacks and obstacles that life sends our way.  A few examples, “I am attracting health and wellness.”  “I am attracting abundance and prosperity.”  “All is happening for my highest good.”  “I am healthy; I am whole, I am healed.”  These are a few of our favorite ways to start the day.

2) Surround ourself with positive people.  It can be difficult to look on the bright side when we’re in the company of pessimists.  This month, seek more uplifting company, and we just may find that we have a more positive outlook on life.  “We attract what we project.”

3) It’s important to get outside ourselves and to make an effort to help others.  Giving back to those in need can help us spread positivity to others and may help us realize how blessed and lucky we truly are.  Philanthropy doesn’t have to be expensive.  It can be time, treasure, or talent.  It creates a win/win/win for us, for the cause, for the population that it serves.

4) Let’s not let bad days hold us back.  Everyone has days where it’s just not possible to see the good in things, and that’s okay.  We can’t always have a positive attitude.  However, it’s important that we don’t let these bad days completely ruin our outlook on life or accumulate.  It’s advised to take bad days as they come, but to try our best to have as many positive days as possible.  There is a reason for our feelings.  Acknowledging them, questioning why they are presenting themselves, perhaps making some adjustments that the feelings may require is a good first step.  However, most importantly, we should experience our feelings without judgment.  It isn’t that we have feelings, it is how we choose to respond to them that makes the difference.
