What Are You Leaping Into This Leap Day?

Leap Day 2016

Leap Day is here yet again. What will you do with it?

Once every four years, we get a bonus day! Thanks to our Gregorian calendar not being perfectly balanced with 365 24-hour days, every four years we have to right ourselves. We do that by getting an extra day in February.

Since they only come around every four years, Leap Days are special. In Irish tradition, February 29th is that date on which it’s acceptable for women to propose to men. This theoretically allowed women to balance their relationship with men, in the same way the Leap Day balances the calendar.

In the middle ages, this tradition got so big that if a man denied a women’s proposal on Leap Day, he had to make it up to her by buying her 12 pairs of gloves!

Whether you’ve got a proposal up your sleeve, some glove shopping to do, or another big Leap Day plan, make the most of February 29th – we won’t see another one until 2020!

We hope you enjoy the extra day! Since you’re getting a little extra time in your year, use some of it to tune into the newest The Maria Sanchez Show program, Shadow Politics. I’m joining Senator Michael D. Brown on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PST/7:00 p.m. EST to talk about pressing political issues and much, much more.
