We are inviting you to join us to end the use of tobacco.

Every May 31st, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its global partners recognize World No Tobacco Day.  This international campaign is meant to raise awareness of the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco and second-hand smoke.  The larger goal of this month is discouraging the use of tobacco in any form.

This year, the focus of World No Tobacco Day is “tobacco and lung health.”  The campaign is centered on the negative impact that tobacco has on any consumers lung health, including cancer and chronic respiratory disease.  The campaign also looks to remind the public of the fundamental role that the lungs play in the health and wellness of all of us.  Additionally, World No Tobacco Day advocates for policies to reduce tobacco consumption and asks stakeholders from various sectors to join the fight for tobacco control.

As members of the community, we can do our parts to support the ideals of World No Tobacco Day. On an individual level, we can encourage the smokers in our lives to kick their habit and support them as they go through the process of battling tobacco addition.  We can also work together to get our local politicians to start implementing tobacco-use regulations, such as restricting the use of tobacco products in public spaces like parks, museums, theaters, and other popular gathering points.  It may not appear obvious but when we join together to fight tobacco use, we can help make our communities healthier and safer for everyone.

Join us at The Maria Sanchez Show as we get involved this World No Tobacco Day. Don’t forget to check out our latest program, Shadow Politics with Senator Michael D. Brown. Tune in on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. PDT/7:00 p.m. EDT.
