January is Glaucoma Awareness Month

January: Glaucoma Awareness Month

During the month of January, we’d like to help spread awareness about glaucoma and its prevention.

Glaucoma is known as the “sneak thief of sight.” It’s the second leading cause of blindness and the leading cause of preventable blindness, and over 3 million people in the United States are living with glaucoma. What’s more, the National Eye Institute estimates that this number will hit 4.2 million by 2030.

What can we do to stop glaucoma growth in our country and around the world? That’s the question we want to answer during January, since it’s Glaucoma Awareness Month. The Glaucoma Research Foundation says that one of the best things we can do is talk to our friends and loved ones about Glaucoma. It’s not uncommon for people to lose as much as 40 percent of their vision before they notice because peripheral vision goes first – and then it’s too late to reverse that loss!

Please help us spread the word about glaucoma this month, and make sure that we are routinely getting eye exams so we can notice its signs while treatment may still be effective.

Please join with The Maria Sanchez Show in spreading the word about the sneak thief of sight during Glaucoma Awareness Month!
