It’s National Self-Care Awareness Month—Let’s Take a Moment to Care for Ourselves

Here are a few ways we can focus on our health this month.

September is Self-Care Awareness Month.  This month is a time to remind us to take care of ourselves.  Most people have a million things to worry about each day, and their own health is often overlooked.  However, it’s important to remember that we cannot help others if we are not properly cared for.  Take some time and follow these suggestions for observing National Self-Care Month.

-Spend some time mentally preparing for the day.  Don’t rush into work as soon as your alarm goes off.  Take a second to breathe, eat a good breakfast, and ease yourself into the craziness of the day.

-Make time to exercise.  Keeping our bodies fit and healthy is an important aspect of self-care.  Hit the gym, go for a run, or simply take the dog for a walk.

-Treat yourself to your favorite food.  Self-care isn’t just about physical health and it’s important to take emotional and mental health into account.  One way to lift your spirits and relax is to indulge in some comfort food.  Yes, that means that slice of chocolate cake is one way to participate in self-care!
