Get Ready for Summer with These Top 10 Steak Grilling Tips

What is summer without the convenience of a grilled dinner? Grilling season is upon us, and I am bringing you the top steak grilling tips to help all of Ventura County enjoy the best the grill has to offer.

Tip 10: Prep everything you can ahead of time. This allows you to focus on the chore of grilling the perfect steak.

Tip 9: Beef is specifically grown to produce a quality taste. It does not need to be drowned in sauce, covered in spices, or drenched in marinade. You’re paying top dollar for beef, enjoy the flavor of really well prepared beef and not the flavor of the $4 BBQ sauce.

TIP 8: Nothing is worse than a steak that turns out dry. To avoid this, never pierce it with a fork or a knife. Use tongs or a spatula to turn it over.

TIP 7: If you’d like to avoid tough steak, buy a good quality cut and then only turn it once. The more you turn it, poke it, or check it, the tougher it gets. Be gentle with it.

TIP 6: Build a good fire that produces a large even temperature cooking area.

TIP 5: Use Charcoal, nothing replaces the flavor of charcoal cooking. Gas grills are good, but they aren’t charcoal.

Tip 4: Room Temperature. Let beef warm to room temperature before you cook it. Cold steak becomes really tough really quick.

Tip 3: Add seasonings (lightly) early so that they have time to meld with the beef. Steak is awesome with a little seasoning, but it grills fairly quickly. If you are going to season it, do so early.

Tip 2: Buy the best that you can afford. Not every cut of beef is the same, nor is the quality the same. Grass Fed Organic is awesome.

Tip 1: Get to know wood flavors. Use apple wood, mesquite, or wood from fruit trees as flavor enhancers. They are really easy to use, and the result is awesome.
