How Can We Be Effective Communicators at Work and Home?

How We Can Be Effective Communicators at Work and at Home

We invite you to join us as we work on our ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Many of us know how frustrating it is to have our words misunderstood. Not only does this often result in wasted time, but it can also make for tense relations both at work and at home. This is why it’s important to focus on improving our skill set to communicate effectively. Here are some suggestions that may assist us in improving our communication skills.

Let’s Start with Focusing on Clarity

When communicating, we should always say what we mean as clearly and simply as possible. While this sounds easy in theory, this can be quite difficult in reality. Often, it is a challenge to be direct for fear of seeming rude or overly-blunt. However, we need to remember that being clear is not the same as being brusque. By speaking politely and kindly, we can still get our messages across clearly without seeming short.

Be Good Listeners

Communication is a two-way street. This means that we need to be good listeners if we want to be good communicators. When a co-worker or family member comes to us, it’s important that we are patient and listen attentively to what they have to say. It’s essential to remember that being a good listener doesn’t just mean taking in what the other person is saying. It also requires that we actively engage by asking questions, clarifying, and showing that we are invested in the conversation. When people see that we are making an effort to listen to them, they will be more inclined to listen intently when we have something to say.

These are just a few things that we can do to be effective communicators. We at The Maria Sanchez Show hope you will join us as we work to improve our communication skills.
