Balancing Your Body For Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Saving Time is Around the Corner

This Sunday at 2:00 a.m., Daylight Saving Time begins in an effort to give us more hours of sunlight at times when the majority of us will be awake to enjoy them. While most of us will likely be grateful for the extra daylight, when we change our clocks to “spring forward” we lose an hour of sleep, which can throw our bodies slightly out of whack. To aid our bodies in adjusting to the time change, here are a few helpful hints.

  • Start Early: Instead of only giving ourselves one night to adjust before the workweek, perhaps moving our clocks forward Friday night may be of assistance. That will give us the whole weekend to adjust.
  • Get Moving: Springing forward can mean we might not be tired when it is time for us to go to bed. Physical activity can help us fall asleep more easily, and sleep more soundly.
  • See The Sun: Getting sunlight early in the day will help our bodies adjust its circadian rhythm. Throw open the windows in the morning, and make sure our bedrooms are dark when it is to go to sleep.
