Get Your Digital Devices Ready for Data Privacy Day

Here are some suggestions how we can learn how to keep our data safe.

Technology is everywhere. While it’s helped to make our lives easier, it also leaves us vulnerable to various cyber threats. January 28th is Data Privacy Day. Here are a few tips to better increase our cyber security and to help improve our data privacy.

Update Security Software.

Installing the right antivirus and antispyware software is critical when it comes to protecting digital data. It helps to increase security to minimize the risk of threats. However, it’s also important to update these systems frequently. That way we’re using the latest, most up to date technology.

Use Secure Networks.

The internet connects us to places far and wide. While it’s a great way to communicate, it also leaves us vulnerable. When using the web, it is strongly recommended that we use the most secure networks possible. That way we keep our data as safe as possible.

  • What you post can last a lifetime: Before posting online think about how it might be perceived now and in the future and who might see it.
  • Own your online presence: Set the privacy and security settings on web services and devices to your comfort level for information sharing. It’s ok to limit how and with whom we share information.
  • Be aware of what’s being shared: Be aware that when you share a post, picture or video online, you may also be revealing information about others. Be thoughtful when and how you share information about others.
  • Post only about others as you have them post about you: The golden rule applies online as well.
