Celebrate National Hand Washing Awareness Week by Remembering to Wash Your Hands

The Maria Sanchez Show reminds you that National Hand Washing Awareness Week will take place from December 4th through December 10th, 2013. The Center for Disease Control recommends washing the hands to prevent colds, hepatitis A and other types of infectious diseases.

Remember to wash your hands before cooking or eating meals, after using bathroom facilities, or any time they are dirty. Washing your hands for at least 15 seconds, including the fingers, palms and tops, with soap and warm water, can help prevent the spreading of germs.  It is said that we should sing the ‘happy birthday’ song twice for a time period that is effective for washing thoroughly.

The Maria Sanchez Show reminds you to wash your hands frequently throughout the day. If you take nutritional supplements and shower daily, but fail to wash your hands at appropriate moments, you risk contracting various types of infections.

Carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you for extra convenience when unable to wash your hands with soap and water. However, remember that even though many hand sanitizer formulas kill 99.9 percent of germs, washing your hands with warm water and a bar of soap, or liquid soap, is more effective after using the bathroom.
