October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month

October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, emphasizing the importance of adopting rather than purchasing. With so many innocent pooches in need of a loving home, it makes no sense why we would spend thousands of dollars for a furry family member at a pet store or puppy mill.

To support Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, it’s important that we share the message about adoption versus purchasing. Many folks assume that they’re unable to find puppies or a specific breed when choosing to adopt, however, dogs in need range in age, size, color, breed, gender and temperament. Whatever type of pup you are looking for, there’s likely one just like it at a local shelter.

Interestingly enough, there are breed specific rescue organizations.  If we’re looking for a German Shepherd for example, there are German Shepherd rescues groups throughout the United States.  Sheprescue.org is one such group.  There are even rescues for dogs that have served in the armed forces!

If you know anyone who is looking to invite a furry friend into their family, it would be lovely to show them how amazing shelter dogs can be. Head over to your local shelter and ask how you can assist in finding those animals a place to call home.

Seeing the smile on their face once they have finally found a place to call home is truly amazing. To catch up on the latest from The Maria Sanchez Show, download the latest podcast today!
